The General Steam Navigation Locomotive Restoration Society (GSNLRS) has released an appeal to raise funds towards the cost of lifting the boiler from the rolling chassis.
To progress to the next stages of restoring “General Steam Navigation” the Society wish to remove the boiler.
Firstly, this will allow better inspections of the boiler to see what repairs it will need and secondly volunteers will have better access to frame, where they can remove more parts and clean up the frame to see if any of sections need replacing. Currently, majority of the tubes have been removed in preparation for the lift.
The trust is looking to raise £1500, with £910 raised at the time of writing this article, which the Society is very grateful for.

Update on Restoration
More components have been removed from 35011, such as regulator operating bar and engine brake hangers. Any parts still serviceable but not needed in restoring ‘GSN’ to original Air-Smoothed condition will be offered to other groups. Test fitting new trailing truck parts has also taken place, which has been successful.
