The Bala Lake Railway has released an update on locomotive winter maintenance taking place on their resident steam locomotives, based at Llanuwchllyn, North Wales.
Three of the railway’s resident Quarry Hunslets, George B, Winifred and Maid Marian, have all passed their boiler inspections and are currently being reassembled for the start of the running season, which will see trains run alongside Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid) between Llanuwchllyn and Bala.
Alice is having her 10 yearly overhaul, which includes the fitting of a new boiler. The Severn Valley Railway is currently building this narrow-gauge boiler.
The overhaul of Holy War is also progressing, with her axle boxes currently receiving attention. The Severn Valley Railway will refurbish her boiler in the near future.
