In 2020, the Barnards Miniature Railway, in Essex, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a number of special events featuring several miniature locomotives from all over the country.
The railway was formed in 2010 to trial a length of 7.25″ gauge track in the grounds of Barnards Farm Gardens, near West Horndon in Essex.
Since then, the line has been extended over three times and now operates for around 1-mile and has four stations on its route.
They also have an impressive fleet of locomotives, including 3 Exmoor locomotives from Brookside Miniature Railway, when the line changed ownership.
A double-track section of the line has also been completed, and work is about to start on a signalling system to rival those systems used on a full-sized heritage railway.
The first event is LOCOFEST which will see a mix of over 20 visiting and home fleet engines operate over the weekend of the 29th and 30th May. Mainline, local and goods trains are planned for the weekend so it is a must-visit event if you are in the area.
The next event promises some surprises, as, on the 26th July, the Barnards Miniature Railway will be hosting their Narrow Gauge Gala.
The BMR will then showcase its fleet on 6th September with its 10th Birthday Gala day with an intensive timetable.
A new event will be trialled on the evening of the 19th September called ‘ Diesels in the Dark’. The event will include some of the railways Mardyke diesels pulling trains into the evening.
The day after on the 20th will be an all-day Diesel Gala featuring visiting and home fleet locomotives.
The 2020 10th anniversary events round up on the 18th October with the End of Season Gala featuring both steam and diesel traction.
