Network Rail is inviting North Ferriby residents to find out more about the £8m work to protect a railway embankment.

The railway, which runs past the embankment, carries the Hull to Selby line.

The work to be completed at Ferriby embankment will mean trains can continue running reliably for many years to come.

Temporary work has already been completed, including work to stabilise the embankment after coastal erosion caused a crack in the embankment in 2018.

Long-term work, however, will begin next month to prevent more damage.

In order for this work to be carried out, a section of the footpath will be closed from Monday, 9 March until January 2021.

An information event will be held on Monday, 17 February at North Ferriby Village Hall, between 15:30 and 18:00.

What did the officials say?

Clare Brint, Route Asset Manager for Network Rail, said:

“We hope people in the area come along to the information event to find out more about the work, what it involves and how vital it is.

“We’ve already seen the affect that coastal erosion can have on the railway and this work is essential so train services can continue running reliably and safely.”

Patrick Wharam, Countryside Access Manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“The council’s countryside access team is working closely with Network Rail to minimise disruption to walkers and cyclists during the closure period.”
