ScotRail has announced that jobseekers in Strathclyde will now be able to benefit from free travel in their first month of employment.

This is as a result of a new partnership between and The Wise Group.

The operator is offering The Wise Group‘s clients free travel for the first month of paid employment, after their participation in Fair Start Scotland.

The Fair Start Scotland initiative, which is run by The Wise Group in East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, is a Scottish Government initiative to offer support to those looking for a job.

What did the officials say?

Ros Houldsworth, ScotRail Community Liaison Executive, said:

“For people new in employment, the cost of travelling to and from work can be a real financial challenge at the start.

“By providing The Wise Group’s clients with ScotRail Smartcards and one-month free travel to help with the cost, we hope to be able to support more people into work and grow Scotland’s economy.”

Victoria Carson, The Wise Group Engagement and Policy Director, said:

“Often the excitement of being offered a job you have worked hard for can quickly subside when you realise how much it will cost to get you there – all before the vital first wage comes in.

“That’s why we are absolutely delighted to partner with ScotRail and offer our customers this additional financial safety, and open doors to jobs in towns and cities they thought they couldn’t afford to travel to initially.”
