CHECK BEFORE TRAVELLING: Emergency repair work between Gloucester and Chepstow this weekend

Network Rail has announced that it will be working at Lydney this weekend, Saturday 29 February and Sunday 1 March, to complete emergency repairs to the railway following recent storms.

Passengers travelling between Gloucester and Chepstow are urged to check before travelling due to rail replacement bus services in operation between the two stations.

Transport for Wales will continue to run services to the south, which will start and terminate at , and CrossCountry will continue to run services to the north, starting and terminating at .

What did the officials say?

Bill Kelly, route director for Wales and Borders said:

“The recent adverse weather has caused numerous issues all across the network. We are doing our best to make the necessary repairs as soon as possible and ensure the railway remains safe for trains to continue to run.

“I’d like to thank passengers and lineside neighbours for their patience as we carry out this emergency work and urge them to check before travelling at www.nationalrail.co.uk”

Bethan Jelfs, customer delivery director for Rail Services said:

“Network Rail’s emergency repair work at Lydney will impact on our services between Chepstow and Gloucester over the weekend, so customers need to be aware of how this may affect their travel arrangements.

“We are working closely with Network Rail to keep disruption to a minimum and I would like to take this opportunity in advance to thank our customers for their patience and understanding whilst these essential repair works are being carried out.”

‘s planning and performance director, Sarah Kelley, said: “We’re sorry our customers may be inconvenienced by the work this weekend. However, everyone will be aware of the damage caused by the recent weather so it’s vital Network Rail can ensure the continued safe operation of train services along this route.”
