The East Lancashire Railway has announced that Ex-LNER ‘A4’ No. 60009 ‘Union of South Africa’ will be hauling trains this weekend.
The A4 will be hauling standard services on the 18th and 19th January 2020.
This is an excellent opportunity to have a ride behind this locomotive, whose boiler ticket runs out in 2020.
Standard fares apply during the locomotives visit.

Went on this railway on Christmas eve and the Union of South Africa pulled us.
This A4 should be placed where it belongs on the Doncaster scrap line. All this modern day romance of steam twoddle is only for people who never worked with these monsters as cleaners,fireman,fitters etc
Streamlined almost. It would be nice to see an A4 with it’s skirts in place, but I will have to be happy with what we’ve got

Fantastic news for my youngest boy who is steam mad. Will be making the trip down from Carlisle at the weekend for him to see another of his favourite steam locomotives.
Great news about “9”, if it happens. It has eluded me several times in the last 2 years.
Still to see this locomotive; praying she will be well enough to haul the RTC Cotswold Tour in February. Missed her in the West Country due to cancer treatment…..

Going in right direction, caught early so seeing number 9 at Didcot would be a great start to the 2020 season….
I see steam as the future people like to travel behind steam locomotives they don’t pollute as bad as diesel and you don’t need a power station to make them go.
