Recently overhauled Great Western Hall 4953 ‘Pitchford Hall’ is to make an appearance at the Great Central Railway Winter Steam Gala at the end of January.
The 4-6-0 Hall Class was built in August 1929 at Swindon Works and allocated to Bristol Bath Road Shed (82A) and worked in a variety of places on the Great Western. Being retired in May 1963, she moved to Barry scrapyard and was the 150th locomotive to leave. Leaving in 1984, she moved to Tyseley locomotive works where overhaul took place.
She returned to traffic in 2004 and has just completed another overhaul. She is a resident of the Epping Ongar Railway however is heading to the Great Central for their Winter Gala.
With 10 engines expected to be in steam over the weekend, a variety of passenger and freight workings, this is expected to be one not to miss!
NER K1 62005 is also making an appearance with thanks to the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group. Home fleet engines are going to be out in full force including (but not limited to) GWR 6990 ‘Witherslack Hall’, 9F 92214 ‘Leicester City’, BR Standard 5 73156 and BR Standard 2 tender 78018.
