The 4253 Locomotive Company have released an update on their Great Western Railway 4200 Class No.4253, which will see 4253’s boiler head to Heritage Boiler Steam Services (HBSS) for restoration.
Boiler
At the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), shareholders voted in favour of sending the boiler to HBSS for restoration.
The main advantage of HBSS carrying out the work is the timescale, which would allow 4253 to be completed roughly 18 months sooner.
Following this decision, the new backhead plates, front tube plate and longitudinal stays have been gathered together and prepared for transport. In order to fund the boiler restoration, the group needs to raise roughly £30,000.
You can support the group in a number of ways. Shares can be purchased in blocks of £250, which can be paid in full or monthly. Alternatively, you can sponsor components or one-off donations. Any support is much appreciated by the Company and its members. For more information, please click here.
Other Work
Some members of the team have been progressing with other work, such as rubbing down the smoke box for “Marcia” and stripping parts for 5668 and helping repair the Matbro telehandler.
