About 4110

Built at the GWR’s Swindon Works in 1936, 4110 carried out a variety of duties during its 29-year working career for the GWR and British Railways’ Western Region. The tank spent 14 years at Barry Scrapyard before being purchased and moved to Southall Railway Centre in 1979.

Following purchase by the West Somerset Railway (WSR) in 2015 after some restoration work at Tyseley Locomotive Works by previous owners the Great Western Preservation Group, the long-term plan was to restore 4110. The WSR sold 4110 in Early 2019 to the DSR, with restoration work to start soon.

We will publish updates on 4110 as they become available.

  1. East Somerset Railway to overhaul 4110; seen the loco at Minehead and Kingswear awaiting some love and attention. The ESR are getting something of a good reputation in overhauling locos having recently brought 5239 back into service. Keep up the good work!
