The Clan Project has released a further update on the work being completed on the build of Class 7 pacific No. 72010 Hengist.
The order has now been placed for the bogie side frame plates to be machined and drilled. The plates have been moved into the machine shop to be tack welded before machining can start. The group hopes to start this work within the next week.
In total, there are 3 sandboxes on a Class 6 or 7 pacific. The project has the larger rear sandbox in stock, after purchasing it some time ago, however, now the parts have been organised, the group can now have a good look at them.
Ashley Shimwell got a coat of undercoat on the inside of one. 2 of them need a bit more work to finish off the welding.
The team has also trial fitted one between the frames while they were moving them to the fitting bay after the first one was painted.
Although the team are using some of the old BR drawings, they are also generating modern style drawings.
The Clan Project has received news recently that 9 of the bogie castings have been completed. The pivoted pin bolted to the frames engages in the central hole on the slide which will be machined to receive a bush.
