Northern introduces new Halifax to Hull train service

Northern has announced that it has introduced better train links between West and East Yorkshire thanks to a new direct service between and .

The route was introduced as part of ‘s new timetable.

Northern was joined by local councillors and the business community at Hull Paragon Station to wave-off one of Northern’s Class 158 trains as it headed off to Halifax.

What did the officials say?

Steve Hopkinson, Regional Director at Northern, said:

“I’m delighted to have been able to introduce this new service which provides a great link between two of Yorkshire’s iconic locations – and all points in between.

“We are determined to give our customers greater flexibility and better connectivity and this new service provides fantastic journey opportunities across the breadth of Yorkshire.”

Steve added:

“The launch event shows not only how important this service is for our customer, but also the support it has from the local community.

“The improved links will provide new commuting and leisure opportunities which will help contribute to economic development at all points on the route.”

  1. More Class 158’s and Class 170’s are to be cascaded from ScotRail to Northern to improve better rail services that Northern wants to improve on. As well new trains operating in the East Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside. And Class 323 cascaded from West Midlands Railway to operate on the busier electrified services including the Manchester Piccadilly-Hatfield & Glossop services.

  2. Not a great start. This week so far: 4 cancellations and 5 services starting/stopping in Leeds. Short formed many times as well. Northern are not capable of running their existing services let alone support new ones .
