Northern has announced that it has introduced two of their new Class 195 diesel trains between Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham, one week ahead of the proposed introduction!
This is due to the driver and crew training being completed early, as well as compliance testing along the route. This means that passengers on the route now have the experience of the new trains, boosting passenger service and comfort.
The new trains, that feature free Wi-Fi, power ports, information screens, and have space for bikes and wheelchairs, are part of the largest modernisation programme that is transforming travel in the north of England. Northern is refurbishing its existing fleet and adding new Class 195 trains.
The new trans are the 34th and 35th new trains on the northern network, and 52 new trains will be in service before Christmas.
What did the officials say?
Steve Hopkinson, Regional Director for Northern said:
“I’m delighted that customers travelling through West and South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the East Midlands will now be served by brand new trains.”
“These fantastic trains are a true step-change in travelling experience and we are very proud to be delivering a £500m investment.”
“We are working extremely hard to deliver our transformation programme and had planned to introduce the new trains from Sunday 15th December. Our teams and partners have worked tirelessly and that commitment will enable five of the 10 new trains for the route to be operating by the end of this week.”
