The Cotswold Steam Preservation Ltd has announced that they have decided on where the boiler for GWR 28XX locomotive No. 2807 is going for its overhaul.
The overhaul for GWR No. 2807 has been in the planning for several years.
At the end of 2019 running season at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, 2807 will be retired from service.
The final two days of operation for the locomotive will be 31st December 2019 and 1st January 2020.
The reason for withdrawing the locomotive is to allow a substantial overhaul to take place. Overhauls ensure the safety of the boiler and all the tiny parts that make up the machine.
Volunteers can’t complete the boiler work as it requires specialist skills and is essential to have a contractor in mind to carry out the work. Several factors have gone into this decision. Factors include the availability of a slot in the schedule, the quality of work, the cost and more.
Riley & Son (E) Ltd, based in Heywood, Lancashire has been confirmed as the contractor to carry out the work on the boiler.
Once withdrawn, the work to remove the boiler will be a top priority for the team working on 2807.
The anticipated transferral of the boiler to the Riley & Son workshop is mid-2020.
