The Nene Valley Railway has announced that LMS Black 5 No. 44871 will be visiting them this festive season.

The visit of 44871 is thanks to its owner, Riley & Son (E) Ltd.

44871 will be at the Nene Valley Railway to operate Santa Steam trains along with resident 34081 ’92 Squadron’.

The locomotive will also be available for Driver Experience Days on the 3rd and 4th January – more information on that is available here.

The visit of 44871 will also see it haul the NVR’s Christmas services on the 28th and 29th December 2019, and the 5th January 2020 with the Mark 1 coaching stock.

About 44871

44871 is owned by Ian Riley and is usually seen hauling mainline tours, such as “The Jacobites” in Scotland, from Fort William to Mallaig, with fellow Black 5 45407 ‘The Lancashire Fusilier’ and K1 62005.

Returning from a recent overhaul in 2017, 44871 also spends time at heritage railways, such as the East Lancashire Railway.
