The Churnet Valley Railway has announced that 2253 Omaha will be staying until the end of 2019.
An agreement has been confirmed between Churnet Valley Railway and the Dartmouth Steam Railway and 2253’s owner, Peter Best for the S160 to stay until the new year.
This is great news as the reason for Omaha’s original visit was for the Super Power Saturday, which was unfortunately cancelled due to flooding (more on that here).
Back in 2017, the Churnet Valley Railway and Dartmouth Steam Railway signed a deal that would see a Paignton locomotive visit Cheddleton for 3 winters.
With 4555’s overhaul ongoing and with the blessing of Peter Best, 2253 will take up residence in place of the small prairie.
She is booked to operate all post-Christmas Winter Warmer services, which will feature two round trips along the Cauldon branch.
If you want to avoid the excess turkey at home, then there is no better way to escape then to board the CVR for the 20 mile round trip between Froghall and Ipstones.
Tickets are available to book now online, with a discount available for online bookings.

Great news for all concerned! I think USATC 2-8-0 no. 2253 looks really great after it’s makeover in maroon livery, and I’d like to be able to get to see/hear it on the CVR!
