Santa special steam train running to Carlisle this Sunday

One of the Carnforth pool of locomotives will be back in steam on the mainline as it hauls a Santa steam train between Lancaster and Carlisle on Sunday 1st December 2019.

The locomotive is on a special rail tour from Lancaster to Carlisle. The engine is yet to be confirmed but is expected to be 46115 Scots Guardsman.

The steam locomotive will depart the Lancaster at approximately 10:57 am.

The railtour will then leave the Lancaster, bound for Carlisle, where it will steam through Hest Bank (11:02), Oxenholme Lake District (11:45), Tebay (12:01), Shap Summit (12:07) and Penrith (12:23).

The steam locomotive will arrive at Carlisle at 13:43.

Departing Carlisle at 14:11, the train will take the same route back to Lancaster. The train will steam through Penrith North Lakes (14:36), Shap Summit (14:50), Tebay (14:57) and Oxenholme Lake District (15:10) before arriving into Lancaster at 15:53.
