Update 45 includes work carried out in the run-up to the boiler being reunited with the rolling chassis on Thursday 7th of November 2019.
Rolling Chassis Preparation
One of the biggest jobs needed to be completed before the boiler could be lifted back onto the rolling chassis was fitting the centre coupled wheelset and its associated components.
Fitting the ashpan also had to be completed before the boiler was lifted.
Once the trailing brake hangers had their pins had been fitted, the ashpan was fixed in place, allowing parts, such as the drop grate shaft, to be reattached.
Bottom-End
Work turned to overhaul the Cartazzi trailing truck following the boiler lift. The team is in the process of dismantling each part ready to be assessed. Majority of the pipework across the engine’s frame has been tested for leaks.
The left-hand piston crosshead has been delivered back to York after being bored. The sensors for the On-Train Monitoring Recorder (OTMR) have been calibrated.
Tender and Cod’s Mouth Gearing
Replacement of wasted steel and painting continues on the tender’s tank.
Adjustments have been made to the cod’s mouth gearing to combat wear since it was last overhauled. This work is soon to be completed.
