The Metropolitan Police Service has announced that the incident at London Bridge yesterday is being treated as a terrorist attack.
Following this announcement, the British Transport Police have confirmed that they will have extra officers on patrol across London. Officers will include firearms officers as well as other specialist teams.
These officers will help to reassure members of the public on commutes to and from the capital.
BTP officers will also be onboard trains and also at stations.
London Bridge station and the underground station remains closed, and trains will not stop at this station.
What did the officials say?
Chief Superintendent Martin Fry from British Transport Police, said:
“This was a visibly shocking incident and my deepest thoughts are with those who were affected.
“In response, we will have more officers on patrol as Londoners make their way home this evening and throughout the weekend. These officers are there to reassure the public, so please approach us if you have any concerns.
“I’d also encourage passengers to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to BTP by sending a text to 61016.”
