LMS Black 5 steam locomotives replace LNER A4 this Thursday

Steam locomotives 44871 and 45407 ‘The Lancashire Fusilier’ will be back in steam on the mainline and will be passing through Manchester and Chirk on Thursday 14th November 2019.

The LMS locomotives are replacing 60009 Union of South Africa, which hasnt had its wheel repairs completed in time.

The Black 5s are on a light engine movement. 44871/45407 are moving from the East Lancashire Railway, in Bury, to the St Philips Marsh Depot, in Bristol.

The movement on the national network is to allow the steam locomotive to be in Bristol ready for its role as the locomotive for an upcoming railtour from Bristol to Chester.

The steam locomotive will depart the ELR at 10:00, before passing through Manchester Victoria (11:00), Eccles (11:09), Warrington Bank Quay (11:32), Helsby (12:27), Chester (12:40), Wrexham General (12:58), Chirk (13:09), Shrewsbury (14:06), Craven Arms (14:47), Leominster (15:06), Hereford (15:23), Abergavenny (17:13), Severn Tunnel Junction (18:00), Patchway (18:15) and St Philips Marsh HSTD at 19:01
