Passengers in the Bristol area are being advised by Network Rail to check before travelling over the next two weekends (26-27 October and Sunday 3 November) as it carries out important signalling work in the area.

The work will pave the way for more frequent services from December as part of the biggest timetable change in 40 years.

Network Rail will be working in the Patchway, Stoke Gifford and Filton areas of Bristol during the coming weekends, removing old 1960s signalling equipment and switching on and testing the new, modern signals.

Once this work is complete, the available platform space at Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood can be used more effectively and efficiently to enable the increase in train journeys.

Drainage work at both stations will also be carried out over the two weekends to allow for the continued safe and reliable running of the railway.

Jonathan Davies, area delivery director for Network Rail said:

“This work is a vital step towards implementing the biggest timetable change on this line since 1976, enabling us to increase the capacity of the network in preparation for more frequent services later this year.

“I would like to thank passengers and residents in advance for their patience while we carry out this essential work.”
