The Ivatt Diesel Recreation Society has announced that they have finalised details with Porterbrook for the donation of a Mk3 sleeper coach.
The coach, SLEP 10597, will be used to accommodate Ivatt Diesel Recreation Society volunteers who are planned to build and operate locomotive number 10000, Britains first mainline diesel.
Porterbrook’s support for the IDRS reflects the links that the Derby-based company has with the ‘Ivatt twins’.
Porterbrook’s head office stands very close to the spot in Derby where 10000 was built in LMS erecting shop in 1947.
There will be a small event at Ivatt House to celebrate the handover of sleeper coach no 10597 in early December.
The long term plan for 10597 is that it will become the IDRS’s support coach. In the meantime, it will be used for volunteer accommodation at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway.
The IDRS would also like to thank Mike Evans and Leigh Gration at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway for making arrangements for us to bring the coach to Wirksworth.
