A day to celebrate the country’s railway stations is being used to showcase the improvements at the third busiest station in the UK, Liverpool Street.

It is estimated almost 67 million passengers entered or exited through the station in 2017/18, and over the past 18 months has seen its 3,500 lights replaced, making the station much more efficient.

‘s two water fountains have so far saved the use of 160,000 plastic bottles.

Passengers needing to visit the toilets dont need to spend a penny, as it became free to pee in April.

Other changes to improve the station which are part of a Station Improvement Plan include 150 more seats for passengers, free wi-fi coming in the near future and improved information.

What did the officials say?

Stuart Johnson, station manager at , said:

“We want people to have an enjoyable experience when they come through the station, either as a passenger, using it as a walk through or to use one of the many shops or cafes.

“All our staff work tirelessly to make the experience better for everyone who uses the station, and on Stations Day, we celebrate those staff that go the extra mile to help others.”
