Update 44 has seen big progress achieved in the overhaul of the Tender, along with work on the frame and boiler.
Tender
Over the space of two days, the tender tank has been reunited with the frame and wheels.
Once lifting equipment was acquired, the tank was lifted to allow the frame to be rolled into place underneath. While lifted, the painting team worked late to reach areas which had previously been covered.
The lowering down process went very well, with most bolt holes aligning up correctly, with some now permanently fixed. Replacing wasted steel has continued at the front end.
Support Coach and Frame
Repainting of the support coach into Cream and Red is almost finished at Cranmore. Work continues on reassembling the slide bars and crosshead.
Cod Mouth’s Gearing and Boiler
Renewal of bearings and bushes has continued, with some being readjusted to reduce wear across the whole mechanism.
Further welding has been carried out on the ashpan. With the superheater fitted the boiler has passed its hydraulic test and now awaits its last out of frame test.
