Thanks to an unnamed individual, a pair of Great Western Railway whistles have been donated to the Churchward County Trust. The whistles will be used on their new-built GWR Churchward 4-4-0 “County” class engine No.3840 “County of Montgomery”.
Whistles
Although its currently unknown if these type of whistles were ever fitted to the Churchward Counties, the donation is much appreciated by the society.
The pair consists of one high pitched whistle (the main whistle on the locomotives, for hauling normal trains), whereas the other whistle produces a deeper tone, used to notify the brake van on an unfitted freight train to apply their brakes, hence the different sound.
Nameplate
Also revealed recently was a picture of the nameplates under construction at the Procast Foundry.
