The tender is in the process of having it’s bigger components reassembled, with the boiler nearing completion at the Llangollen Railway.

Expansion of the superheater elements has been taking place at the Llangollen Railway.

Some elements have been more difficult and required different expanders than others.

A milestone has been reached as the frame is ready for lifting onto its wheelsets. The team now focus on completing work which is easier to do while the tank is off, such as refitting the brake, suspension and piping systems. Paint has also been applied to the frame.

On the tank, repairs are being made to a number of areas, with welding being used to build up or fix new sections in place. The difficult task of reassembling and aligning the corridor’s roof has been completed.

Chassis

Bolts for the centre slidebar have all been machined and now awaited their final fix. Pins and bushes for the outside valve gearing are currently being fitted. This work is being done in house, where measuring, drilling and reaming is carried to fit them. Work on the centre big end bearing has seen drawings prepared for the final machining and metalling work needed to the bronze castings, which will be completed by a contractor. Also, the pipework for lubrication to the slidebars and glands is being fitted.

Work on the eccentrics has seen the measurements taken and compared with LNER drawings to ensure each component is machined to the correct size. With these sizes confirmed, the subcontractors are currently carrying the necessary work.
