Work continues at the Severn Valley Railway on overhauling sole surviving London, Midland and Scottish Railway Stanier Class 5 2-6-0 No.2968.
‘Bottom-End’
The coupled wheels have cleaned up and measured in preparation for rewheeling the frame.
The axleboxes are undergoing machining, with each one machined to match its axle.
All four coupling rods and their bushes & pins have been cleaned and are in the process of being repairs.
While the frame is on jacks, the team could only refit some of the various pipework and now need the frame back on its wheels before they can continue. Under the cab, the driver’s side injector and related parts have been reassembled.
Boiler and Tender
Re-positioned to lay on its right-hand side, work can begin on repairing the left-hand side of the copper firebox.
Now fully reassembled, the tender’s hand brake can be used now and the buffers are undergoing a repaint.
