Staff and Volunteers at the Great Central Railway‘s Loughborough Locomotive Deport have been busy striping down “Oliver Cromwell” to assess the work needed to get this legendary engine back in service.
Leading Bogie and Trailing Truck
Both of these have been dismantled, allowing the frames to receive a coat of paint.
Next task will be to inspect each part and make repairs where necessary.
Boiler
Following the boiler lift, the team has removed all the flute tubes and made a start on the small tubes.
At the opposite end of the boiler, the firebox tubeplate has been removed. It is beyond economically repair so a new one will be made.
