USATC S160 2253 has returned to steam at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway!
The locomotive is to undergo testing on the line, both light loco movements and loaded test runs, typically double heading with a service train.
Once testing is complete, 2253 will depart the NYMR on a low loader, bound for her new home at the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway.
Below are two pictures of the loco, first being when she was last on the NYMR in a sorry state waiting for restoration to begin and the second being the latest image we have of her.
(First image credit to Simon Birnie who photographed the loco in 2010, and the second credit to Peter Best, the loco’s owner).
The difference in 9 years is remarkable, Peter and his team have done a splendid job.

Looks stunning, but it’s a little annoying that after all the work and effort put in by the NYMR MPD, that the NYMR isn’t getting use if the Loco for a longer period than just running in.
If Mr Best wants to paint his loco red that’s entirely up to him. But I assume there’s no historical precedent?
