CTL Seal Ltd have been busy constructing the frame for the new British Railways Standard Class 6 engine for The ‘Clan’ Project.
Frame
Following the completion of machining, the smokebox saddle has been reunited with the front end of the frame, with temporary bolts holding the casting in position.
Once the issue with the left-hand side rear keep has been resolved, the whole frame will then be moved into the Machine Shop at CTL Seal.
The spring links for the bogie and coupled wheels have been forged, machined and shipped to the group, another item needed to be ticked off the list.
Motion and Smokebox
Among the many parts trialled fitted has been the motion brackets. They are key in ensuring the valve gearing runs inline correctly, so they need to fit perfectly.
With more work to be carried on the frame, the motion brackets will be put back into the store after the trials.
A new coat of paint has been applied to the smokebox and it’s the door to improve its appearance and protect it against the elements.
