Engineers are going to be delivering a set of works on the line between Kilmarnock and Carlisle in order to upgrade the line from Saturday, July the 13th, to Thursday, July the 25th.

More than 2 miles worth of new tracks is going to be laid, alongside improvements to the drainage systems, at multiple locations along the line that runs between Auchinleck and Dumfries during this works project.

Two railway bridges on the line previously mentioned will be undergoing refurbishment and strengthening works, this will also include platform maintenance taking place.

Due to the complexity of the engineering works that are taking place and the heavy machinery that is in fact involved, these upgrades cannot be delivered without the short-lasting closure of the line.

Train Replacement buses will run between Kilmarnock and Carlisle on Saturday, July the 13th, and Sunday, July the 14th, and then between Kilmarnock and Dumfries from Monday, July the 15th, until Thursday, July the 25th.

What did the officials say?

Lindsay Saddler, head of maintenance for Network Rail Scotland, said:

“These upgrades are essential to maintaining a reliable service on the line, but they cannot be delivered without a short closure of the railway.

“Our engineers will be working around-the-clock to complete this complex programme as quickly as we possibly can as we understand the inconvenience these works will cause to some of our customers.”
