The Epping Ongar Railway has announced that it is presenting over 80 beers at its summer festival this weekend.

The festival will celebrate both 60 years since the introduction of our class 31 diesel locomotive 31438 to traffic, and the 100th birthday of our diminutive little saddle tank steam locomotive “Isabel”.

From the 19th to 21st of July, North Weald station and the heritage trains will again ring out to the sound of clinking glasses.  The 7th beer festival is planned to be the biggest and the best yet.

What’s more, with regular and direct vintage bus services from Epping Underground and Shenfield National Rail, the festival is one of the most accessible rail ale festivals near London.

75% of the real ales on offer come from breweries within a 30-mile radius of North Weald station.

One of the ales has been specially brewed for the occasion. “Isabel Ale” is a collaboration with Brentwood Brewing Co., and is a summer ale with late dry hopping. You can try it in the main marquee during the festival (whilst stocks last!)

Once again in the evenings, the hills will come alive with the sound of music, including at least one dedicated music train each night. A full list of all the beer, cider, food and soft drinks on offer can be found on the railway’s website by following the link below.

As usual, the funds raised will be ploughed into supporting the operation and maintenance of the railway. Additionally, the festival will be supporting locally based charity, Barrow Farm, a purpose built facility, enabling people with special needs and disabilities to develop their abilities and enrich their lives through riding.
