The SDJR at Midsomer Norton has announced that their Wickham Trolley has gone on a test run.

Recently, there has been a big effort by volunteers, led by Alan Humphries, to complete the restoration of the Type 27A Wickham Trolley B40W.

The team has been sourcing and overhauling a number of parts to get this vehicle operational again since its withdrawal from BR a number of decades ago.

These trolleys were used by P-Way (Permanent Way) teams from 1948 onwards to travel to sections of railway that they were responsible for.

A number were used over the S&D. Midsomer Norton even had its own shed just north of the demolished road bridge over Silver Street.

It’s recommissioning started with a number of short distance runs within the limits of the station yard on Monday 17th June.

The Wickham was then driven along the full length of the running line where operational tests were conducted including brake testing. This is essential before the vehicle is put into regular use by the railway.
