Work has continued on many fronts in overhauling the sole surviving Stanier 2-6-0 “Mogul” at the Severn Valley Railway.
Cylinders and Pipework
Following on from the last update, the new valve liners have been fitted in both cylinders.
This has allowed covers and components of the valve gearing to start being reassembled.
Brought out from storage, the copper pipework for various systems is being cleaned or replaced where necessary and then fixed into place.
Cab and Firebox
The scale on the reverser has received a coat of white paint over its numbers. Following the completion of repairs to its bracket, the water injector has been temporarily attached to trial fit pipework in the cab.
New copper sheets and copper welding have been used to repair the inner firebox, with the first lot of new stays fitted in place to secure both inner and outer sheets of the firebox. A new firebox slide bar has been produced after the old one was beyond repair.
