The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust has released a saddening update on their Standard 4 No.80080.
Last week, the locomotive had her first boiler wash out since returning to steam at the East Lancashire Railway.
However, the ELR’s engineer has had to fail the locomotive whilst it was undergoing a steam test.
The fail is due to a blow from some of the superheater elements. This is very surprising to the team, as the elements were only 6 months old when the locomotive returned to West SHed in November 2016.
A plan of repair for the locomotive has already been decided between the PRCLT and the East Lancashire Railway.
However, this is a big blow for the trust’s budget, especially since 6233 Duchess of Sutherland is due to arrive back at West Shed from Rugby this week for potential axle box repairs.
