South Western Railway has announced that a new direct train service is now running between Farnham and Guildford stations.
The service was introduced as part of the new SWR timetable that was published earlier this week.
The trains are now running every half an hour and have been created due to customer and stakeholder feedback that was collected and received.
The timetable introduction has now meant that extra seats and better connectivity is available for many customers that are using the network and travelling across the SWR network.
South Western Railway have celebrated the arrival of this brand new direct service from Farnham to Guildford early in the day of Friday the 23rd of May 2019.
Jeremy Hunt the MP joined SWR’s Managing Director Mr Andy Mellors at the Farnham station along with many passengers in order to get onto the new service that runs at a regular half an hour repeat.
The train that Mr Jeremy Hunt MP and Andy Mellors boarded along with passengers departed from the station at the time of 09.34, and as a service arriving in to platform 6 at Guildford it arrived very shortly prior to 10.00. At the Guildford station, they were joined by Anne Milton MP in order to celebrate and mark the occasion of this services creation.
What did the officials say?
Andy Mellors said:
“The new direct, half-hourly service is a vast improvement on the old timetable (where customers travelling between Farnham and Guildford had to change at Aldershot) that reduces journey times significantly.
“It was great to mark the occasion as I know how much our customers have been looking forward to its arrival. By the end of the first week of the new timetable introduction, I am really pleased to report that we have run over 300 additional train services, providing extra seats across the network.”
Jeremy Hunt MP said:
“It is great news that there is a new direct link between Farnham and Guildford. I have been pressing hard for this for some time and frankly if we want to make Farnham attractive for young people you need to be able to travel to our nearest big town easily. Time will tell regarding extra pressure on the station car park in Farnham but in the end this will mean fewer not more people in cars.”
Anne Milton MP said:
‘It is great to see the new direct link between Guildford and Farnham. It will be great for people in the Farnham area to be able to use all the fantastic facilities Guildford has to offer but of course it will also be easier for students attending Farnham 6th Form College and the University of the Creative Arts. This is great news for Guildford!’

At least South Western Railway can benefit with operating direct local services to places that is ideal for commuters to travel on instead of driving or using public transport. But well done South Western Railway.
