Over on the 60009 Union of South Africa Facebook page, there has been an update released on the repair work taking place on the locomotive.
The bad news first, 60009 has already been announced as not being able to visit the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (more information on that here), this is due to the late delivery of valve and piston rings.
This was due to a shortage of raw materials and the current volume of work that the manufacturers are experiencing at this time.
Now, the good news. It has been confirmed that 60009’s mainline certificate has been extended for another 12 months, meaning you can enjoy this locomotive for longer than expected!
Also, there is a possibility that 60009 will be visiting the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in late September.
More updates will be released soon.
