Great Western Railway has announced it has scooped two top prizes at this year’s Rail Business Awards.
The Rail Business Awards are the industry’s most recognised awards scheme.
Shortlisted in a massive eight categories, GWR and Network Rail have been named as the Rail Team of the Year for their Western Alliance partnership.
The train operator also grabbed the award for Marketing and Communications Excellence.
GWR was shortlisted for eight awards: Women in Rail; Rail Team of the Year, joint with Network Rail for the Western Alliance; Rolling Stock Excellence, joint with HRE for Intercity Express Trains; Marketing and Communications Excellence, Famous Five; Accessibility and Integrated Transport Excellence, joint with NR and SWR for the Royal Wedding; Education and Training Excellence, apprentices; Customer Service Excellence, joint NR and SWR for the Royal Wedding, and Safety and Security Excellence, for signal passed at danger (SPAD) reduction.
What did the officials say?
Speaking after the awards dinner at the London Hilton on Park Lane, GWR Commercial Development Director Matthew Golton said:
“After three years of building up our alliance with Network Rail, recognising what we can achieve and how best to work together to deliver for all of our customers across the route, I am delighted that this work has been acknowledged in this way.
“I am also thrilled for our Marketing team being recognised for the Famous Five campaign; and not least being highly commended for our apprentice scheme, and Customer Service Excellence for delivering the Royal Wedding.”
Also responding to the award win, Route Managing Director for Network Rail’s Western route Mark Langman said:
“It was great that our work with GWR was recognised among the wider industry, and I’m thrilled that our alliance won the ‘Rail Team of the Year’ award. We will continue to work with our GWR colleagues to further develop the alliance partnership to ensure that we can deliver the best possible service for passengers.”
