Steam locomotive 419 joins 60103 Flying Scotsman at the Swanage Spring Steam Up

The Swanage Railway has announced that Caledonian Railway 419 will be visiting them for their Spring Steam Up.

The Spring Steam Up will be held between 29th – 31st March 2019. The event is set to combine the best of Scottish and Southern power.

Additionally, 80104, the ‘s resident BR Standard 4, will be renumbered into 80126, a Scottish Standard that was based at Perth in the 1960s.

419 joins 60103 Flying Scotsman, 30120, 31806 (Friday Only), 80126 and 33111 (Saturday and Sunday Only) at the event.

No. 419 returned to steam in October 2018 and is based at the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway in Scotland. The locomotive has not visited England since 1982 and it is its furthest ever visit south.

The locomotive was built by the Caledonian Railway at St Rollox Works, Glasgow, in 1907 and was designed by J.F. Mcintosh for branch line work before its career was ended on pilot duties for British Railways at Carstairs.
