The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has announced that they are currently looking into an incident which took place at the Ffestiniog Railway, in North Wales.
Around 16:30 on the 6th January 2019 saw an engineering train travelling on a falling gradient. It approached the level crossing at Penrhyn and was unable to stop.
The train collided with the gate protecting the A4085 road, coming to rest across the carriageway.
Penrhyn’s crossing gate was damaged, but no injuries were reported.
The RAIB has already undertaken a preliminary examination into what happened at this accident.
They have concluded, following an assessment of the evidence, that they will be publishing a safety digest.
The safety digest will be available on the government website in the next few weeks.
