The Bahamas Locomotive Society has announced that the return of 45596 Bahamas to the mainline has been unfortunately delayed.
The delay is due to a delay in completing the installation and commissioning of the TPWS/OTMR equipment by the contractor engaged by Tyseley to do this work.
This now means there is a knock on effect on submitting the locomotive documentation to Network Rail for Bahamas to be included in the Network Rail Rolling Stock Library.
This now means the testing program, and the light engine movement from Tyseley to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway has been delayed.
Given that West Coast Railway Company’s have other commitments around the Christmas period, with their organised tours etc, the testing has had to be deferred until at least January.
This now means that Bahamas will now return to Ingrow until at least the 15th January 2019.
As the engine is booked to haul its first train on Saturday 9 February 2019, Bahamas will not go to Ingrow West, and instead, will go to Haworth MPD to be prepared for its tour. A possible repeat trip is currently being considered but is not confirmed.
Unfortunately, given the locomotives current mainline commitments and 45596’s availability during the KWVR March Gala, Bahamas will not return to Ingrow for display for several weeks.

A disappointment for armchair enthusiasts like myself, who still hanker for the sight of a well turned-out ‘Jubilee’ such as ‘Bahamas’, but it must be a crushing blow to those involved ‘behind the scenes’ who have worked so hard both physically on the loco, and with the paperwork & logistics, for this to happen. It just shows too, how things impact on each other in matters of this sort. My commiserations to all involved, but hopes for things to turn out right yet, albeit a tad later than planned. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to all!
