On Sunday, 2nd December 2018, 70000 Britannia made its return to the mainline on the Welsh Borders Express.
The tour ran from Crewe to Telford Central via Shrewsbury on the outbound journey and Stafford on the return journey.
At Gobowen, George Jones captured the ‘Britannia’ locomotive as it stormed towards Shrewsbury.
George has also reported that a good crowd gathered at the station to see the powerful locomotive pass through.
With Class 47 D1924 on the back for assistance, 70000 Britannia steamed through Gobowen on time at 12:37.
Thanks to George Jones for sending us his image from his trip out!
A brief history of 70000 Britannia
70000 Britannia first entered passenger service in 1951. It worked the train services from London to East Anglia and later worked on the West Coast Mainline. Now owned by Icons of Steam, the locomotive is seen on the mainline after running in at the Severn Valley Railway.
