East Midlands Trains has announced that it is celebrating local communities and the environment this week.

This week also marks the end of its month-long campaign across the Stagecoach companies in the UK.

There are a lot of activities planned to help raise money by the train operator for local charities and to help protect the environment.

A children’s book called ‘Stagecoach Saves the Buzzy Bees’ has been published by Stagecoach Group. Copies of the book include cartoon characters based on well-known vehicles. They have been donated to Abbey Hill School, Longton, Chaucer Junior School, Ilkeston and schools across the Poacher Line.

Staff who work for the train operating company have also been getting involved to help build a bug hotel at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Duffield. To view more on this, click here.

Staff will also be collecting and donating to local Trussell Trust food banks with donations going to the food banks in Derby, Long Eaton and Nottingham.

To finish the week off, will be taking part in a ‘Switch it off’ campaign on Friday 19th October. This is in an effort to reduce electrical energy consumption by remaining vigilant turning off items where possible.

What did the officials say?

Jake Kelly, Managing Director for East Midlands Trains said:

“We understand that our business is important to the people we serve. Whether we’re taking people to work, taking them shopping or to visit their families we play an important part in our passenger’s lives. This is why we want to give something back this week and hope that by raising funds for local charities and donating these books we can have a positive impact on our local communities.”
