Transport for London has announced today that they are looking for views on plans for a second entrance at Southwark Tube Station.

The station has won awards for its design and was opened in 1999 as part of the Jubilee Line Extension.

Today, it is used by 17 million passengers a year. TfL) is today (Wednesday 12 September) seeking views on plans for a second entrance at Southwark Tube station.

The new entrance on Green Street will ensure that the station is able to cope with future increases in passenger usage and relieve pressure on the existing entrance.

The land at the Greet Street location is owned by TfL, meaning that an entrance on this site would be cost effective.

TfL will be holding two exhibitions in the coming weeks for local residents, businesses and customers to discuss these plans with the Southwark station project team.

These exhibitions will be held on Saturday 22 September 2018 10am-4pm and Friday 5 October 10am-7pm in the Ground Floor meeting rooms at Palestra, 197 Blackfriars Road, London, SE1 8NJ

What did the officials say?

Marlon Osborne, Head of Customer Service for the Jubilee Line said:

`A second entrance at Southwark station will make customer journeys easier for thousands of customers every day as well as supporting the growing number of homes and jobs in the area. I’d encourage all those living and working nearby to attend the exhibitions to learn more about the plans, share their views and help shape how the community space inside the station is used.’

  1. As long as TfL has got the money to spend on upgrading tube stations that needs improving across London. Including tube stations in Central London that are always as busy 24/7.
