Steam train in Carlisle this Saturday – where and when to see it!

Steam locomotive 45699 Galatea will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Carlisle on Saturday 15th September 2018.

The Jubilee locomotive is on a special railtour tomorrow. 45699 is hauling The Cathedrals Express on Saturday.

The railtour departs London Euston behind an electric locomotive at approximately 07:10 am.

The railtour will then leave London Euston, bound for Carlisle, where it will make stops at Milton Keynes Central (07:45), Rugby (08:23), Lichfield Trent Valley (08:57), Crewe (09:36) and Preston (09:55) before arriving at Carnforth Down and Up Goods Loop at 10:52.

The train will depart Carnforth at 11:24 and will pass through Oxenholme (11:35) and Penrith (11:58), it will go non stop to Carlisle, where it will arrive at 12:14.

At Carlisle, 45699 Galatea will be added to the train. It will depart Carlisle at 13:32 bound for London Euston. It will pass through Workington (14:22), St Bees (14:56), Sellafield (15:10), Foxfield (16:06), Grange-over-Sands (16:57) and Carnforth before arriving into Carnforth Down and Up Goods Loop at 17:15.

Here, 45699 Galatea is taken off the train, and a diesel locomotive will take the same path back to London Euston, calling at Preston (18:29), Crewe (19:27), Lichfield Trent Valley (20:13), Rugby (20:53), Milton Keynes Central (21:21) and Watford Junction at 22:03.

The railtour will arrive back at its final destination of London Euston at 22:27.
