Steam locomotive in York and Scarborough this Thursday – where and when to see it!

No. 48151 on the Settle and Carlisle

Steam locomotive No.48151 will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in York and Scarborough on Thursday 13th September 2018.

The 8F locomotive is hauling the York to Scarborough leg of the Scarborough Spa Express, which originates in Carnforth.

The heritage diesels will depart Carnforth at 07:06 am and will stop at Lancaster (07:14), Preston (07:40), Blackburn (08:37), Hebden Bridge (09:22), Brighouse (09:45), Wakefield Kirkgate (10:13) on their way to York Holgate Loop, where the diesels are swapped for 48151.

The steam locomotive will depart York at approximately 11:45 am.

The railtour will then leave York, bound for the Scarborough, where it will steam through Malton (12:27) and Seamer (12:56) before arriving at Scarborough at 13:04

After around 4 hours at the seaside town, 48151 will depart for Carnforth, steaming through Seamer (17:22) and Malton (17:44) before arriving at York at 18:14, where the steam locomotive is taken off the train and is replaced by diesel locomotives.

From York, the diesel locomotives will head back to Carnforth via Wakefield Kirkgate (19:47), Brighouse (20:11), Hebden Bridge (20:46), Blackburn (21:31), Preston (22:00) and Lancaster (22:37) where it will then arrive back at its destination of Carnforth at 23:01.
