Greater Anglia has announced that it is employing extra land sheriffs to improve safety for passengers travelling by train.
Land Sheriffs patrol trains and stations across the network.
They aim to provide additional support to railway staff and the British Transport Police in keeping rail travellers safe and secure.
They have also helped prevent seven potential suicides this year.
What did the officials say?
Greater Anglia‘s Head of Customer Service, Neil Grabham, said:
“Rail travel is generally a very safe and secure mode of transport, but we want passengers to feel safe when they travel with us and the Land Sheriffs do a great job of deterring crime, dealing with anti-social behaviour and providing a reassuring presence to passengers on trains and at stations.”

But what about ticket dodgers who dodge the barriers (gate line) without paying a train ticket or access the railway station that don’t have ticket barriers and avoid paying a train ticket and board the train. Not knowing that they are being caught on CCTV and are to be prosecuted for not having a train ticket whilst using the trains. It has happened many times on Greater Anglia. Including some who don’t pay a £20 penalty fare. And are to be sent to court for failing to pay a penalty fare. Including some who have Oyster cards which are invalid away from London that haven’t got a ticket and tapped out before boarding train heading away from London.
