Direct Rail Services has announced that they have been awarded their fourth award of the week, with their Class 88 locomotive being named Train of the Year.
The locomotive was named the award at the National Rail Awards in London.
The Class 88s were described as a potential game-changer in terms of electric freight train operation.
DRS 88s have been used on the intermodal Tesco freight services, which run daily from Daventry to Mossend.
They have also been used on nuclear flask services, such as Sellafield in the Lake District and in Holyhead.
This award comes after DRS was awarded Business of the Year at the Rail Freight Group Awards last Tuesday.
What did the officials say?
Chris Connelly, Chief Operating Officer for DRS, said:
“The DRS team is incredibly proud of the awards it has won over the past few days.
“The recognition is testament to what can be achieved through effective teamwork together with huge support from our customers and suppliers. I would like to give my personal thanks to everyone involved as we look forward to many more exciting times ahead.”
