Where and when to see locomotive 55009 Alycidon in Huddersfield, Preston, Edinburgh and Leeds tomorrow

Diesel locomotive No.55009 Alycidon will be back in action on the mainline and will be in Huddersfield, Preston, Edinburgh, and Leeds on Saturday 25th August 2018.

The Deltic locomotive is on a special rail tour from Huddersfield to Edinburgh.

The diesel locomotive will depart the Huddersfield at approximately 05:55 am.

The railtour will then leave the Huddersfield, bound for Edinburgh, where it will pass through Slaithwaite (06:02), Marsden (stop at 06:06), Greenfield (06:28), Stalybridge (stop at 06:36) and Miles Platting (06:59) before stopping at Manchester Victoria at 07:01.

After a 4-minute break, the locomotive will depart Manchester Victoria for Edinburgh, where it will pass through Salford Crescent (07:07), Eccles (07:14) before a further stop for passengers at Wigan North Western at 07:55. From here, 55009 will make a stop at Leyland at 08:13 before stopping at Preston (08:24) for further passengers.

From Preston, the tour will take to the West Coast Mainline and will head via Lancaster (08:46), Oxenholme Lake District (09:02), Tebay (09:16), Shap Summit (09:21) and Penrith North Lakes (09:33) before arriving into Carlisle at 09:46.

Taking back to the mainline at Carlisle, the train will head via Lockerbie (10:40), Beattock Summit (11:04), Kirknewton (11:48) and Haymarket (12:01).

The locomotive will arrive in Edinburgh at 12:05.

Departing Edinburgh at 16:40, the train will take a different route back to Huddersfield/Preston. The train will pass through Dunbar (17:04), Berwick-upon-Tweed (17:29), Alnmouth (17:52), Cramlington (18:42) before arriving into Newcastle at 18:54.

From Newcastle, the Deltic will head via Chester-le-Street (19:05), Darlington (19:28) and  Thirsk (19:50) before arriving into York at 20:09.

At York, 55009 is taken off the train and is replaced by a DB Cargo 67. From here, the 67 will head via Church Fenton (20:59), East Garforth (21:05), Leeds (21:16), Dewsbury (21:28) and Mirfield (21:32) before arriving into Huddersfield at 21:40.

From Huddersfield, the train will take the same route to Preston as in the morning, calling at Marsden (21:55), Stalybridge (22:17), Manchester Victoria (22:39), Wigan North Western (23:15), Leyland (23:36) before arriving into Preston at 23:45.
