The East Lancashire Railway has announced that steam locomotive No.2857 will be visiting the line for their Autumn Steam Gala.
The Heavy Goods locomotive will be visiting from the 19th October until the 21st October 2018.
The locomotives visiting is thanks to the Severn Valley Railway.
2857 is visiting subject to a final test runs as usual.
A brief history of 2857
2857 was built in 1918 at Great Western Railway’s Swindon Works and delivered to Salisbury depot. The locomotive was withdrawn from Neath depot in April 1963 having travelled for a total of 1,276,713 miles in service
The locomotive was purchased from Woodham Bros Scrapyard by The 2857 Society in 1974 at a cost of £5,250 and first steamed in preservation in 1979.
The Autumn Steam Gala
The weekend will be full of steam trains thanks to visiting locomotives and the home fleet of locomotives. An intensive timetable will be in operation throughout the weekend.
